WWII - An Interesting Perspective

Pat Buchanan provides an interesting perspective on Britain and the USA's success (or lack thereof) in WWII. I found it thought-provoking. You might too. The article is available by clicking here.

If your assessment is correct, it's the first time Pat Buchanan has offered an "interesting perspective" in ... um, my memory, at least.

Checking it out.

How come we can't edit our posts here? That's kind of a hassle.

Anyway: in general, sure, interesting point re Stalin. I think he's supposing that Hitler wouldn't have invaded Western Europe had war not been declared though, which is probably ludicrous.

Buchanan has been villified (rightly so at times), but is far more eloquent and thought-provoking than most give him credit. He's like Hillary Clinton in a way - just mention her name and many dismiss her opinions as junk.

With that stated, I agree that it's doubtful that Hitler would have stopped short of invading Western Europe. He also should have mentioned the 6 million Jews that died. An interesting perspective nonetheless...

Oh, and about editing comments - I have no idea why you can't edit them. That's over my head.

You can edit your comment before posting if you preview it. You can't edit after posting because that would require authentication that you are in fact you. Otherwise, anyone could edit your comment. That would require a means of logging in and logging out, and storing more data about each user or each comment than this free system allows.

Basically, you can't do it because it wasn't designed that way. ;-)

If you accidentally say something egregious, and really need it removed, Fool can edit comments manually.

Do you know of any other blog that includes the ability of commenters to edit after the fact?

What Buddha said times fifty and a nice swift punch in your stomach just to keep you in line. ;-)

I also think it's pretty nuts to say that Hitler wouldn't have invaded western europe if France hadn't declared war.

The Soviet Union and Germany agreed to divvy up Poland, so at that time Germany wasn't even fighting the USSR. I think it's impossible that Germany wouldn't have sought annexation of the French territory along their borders at the very least. The two territories that they took during the Franco-Prussian war and had to give up after WWI irked them something serious.

I'd take Stalin over Hitler any day.
