Emptying the Random Junk from the Trunk (of my brain)
Yesterday Cuban officials acted like a bunch of whiny idiots on My Super Sweet 16, bragging that they had achieved a peaceful succession of power. I don’t want to completely rain on the Cuban officials’ parade, but getting excited about having a peaceful transition of power in 2006 is sort of like getting excited about having electricity or indoor plumbing. (For all my readers in West Virginia, disregard that last sentence; you should continue to be proud of every advance your state makes.)
Why do British people usually have mouths filled with teeth that are more crooked than Richard Nixon, Kenneth Lay, and Duke Cunningham combined? It’s very distracting to give directions to a person who looks like she has a bear trap in her mouth.
Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Peter Jennings' death. The void he left has not been filled. R.I.P., Peter.
A study released yesterday indicates that teenagers who regularly listen to music containing lyrics with explicit references to casual sex are more likely to initiate sexual intercourse and take part in other sexual activity compared with students who don’t listen to such music. Did we really need a study to tell us this? The next thing they'll tell us is that kids who smoke, have tattoos, and drink frequently are more sexually active than priests. (Catholic bashers, consider that a knee-high softball slowly drifting to the plate.)
One parting thought, wouldn’t the world be a much better place if all women sported ponytails? Of course, this question is rhetorical because we all know the answer is a resounding YES!

Well now you've gone and made me think of Jennings again.

What gives w/ the pony tail fetish? I always feel like a slob when my hair is in a pony tail--generally on days when I didn't have time to do my hair (happened a lot more frequently right after each kid was born--I've got my sh*t together a bit more now...). What am I missing? (And, btw, you have one pony tail or two pig tails. At least, that's how I always learned it. Am I wrong?)

I don't know what to tell you - I think women look enchanting with ponytails. (And yes, I realize a woman may only sport one ponytail, but doesn't it sound weird to write, "[W]ouldn't the world be a much better place if all women sported ponytail?" Pigtails are ridiculous.)

Well, the sentence would certainly flow a bit better if you inserted the word "a" before the word "pony tail". ;) Nevertheless, for the sake of smooth writing/flow in a post, I guess I'll allow the grammatical error. But, just this once.
As for the pony tail fetish--I'll have to run this one by my husband and see what he thinks (since I can't think on my own, apparently.) I never knew that guys actually liked pony tails. I still can't get past feeling like I took the easy way out when I pull my hair back. (And, no, I'm not a big hair kinda chick. )
Huh. A pony tail fetish. You learn something new every day.

If we're getting technical with all things grammar, ponytail is one word (at least according to freedictionary.com). With that stated, I concede that inserting "a" before "ponytail" would make the sentence about as perfect as a sentence can get. Still seems weird to have a plural subject doing a singular thing, but that's life.

Ponytail(s) it is then.

i think i'm with moi on this one - i don't understand the attraction to ponytails. granted, some women do look good with ponytails, but certainly not all. visualize: a very round-faced woman, sporting a tautly-drawn ponytail, which only serves to make her face appear even more round. kind of unflattering, no?
