A few thoughts before bed...

I was wrong. It turns out Studio 60 is quite entertaining.

Also entertaining - the Korean-American man on the Metro this evening who spoke in a thick Korean accent upon boarding the train and then lost more and more of his accent at each stop until he had no accent whatsoever by the time he got off. I have no idea what this guy was up to, but I certainly like it.

What I don't like is being asked every single day by the same lazy homeless man if I can, "Spare a little change today." Maybe when he stops asking, I'll start giving. Where's Michael Douglas when you need him?

Thinking fool,

Do you think that the Amish school shooting could have been averted if the Amish believed in telephones or alarms?

wow. unbelievable. 5 children are murdered, and suddenly it's the fault of the Amish for not "[believing in] telephones or alarms"?

btw: "Roberts had released about 15 boys, a pregnant woman and three women with infants, then barred the doors with desks and wood and secured them with nails.

The teacher he released ran to a farmhouse to raise the alarm and ten police officers arrived within minutes."

LM, WiseAzz has a point. Early reports suggest that this latest school-shooting thug chose the Amish school in large part because it would be an easy school to break into/carry out his plan without facing too much resistance. Does that mean it was the fault of the Amish? Certainly not, and I don't think WiseAzz suggested as much. But you think if those teachers had guns and everyone in the community knew it, that school would have been targeted? I don't think so.

"But you think if those teachers had guns and everyone in the community knew it, that school would have been targeted? I don't think so."

guns aren't available in any school, be it Amish, private, public, or what have you. (the only instance i can think of is, perhaps, a large urban school, where police, not teachers, possess guns.) so, by that logic, any school would be an easy target, because none of them have guns.

but i don't think the lack of guns, alarms, or telephone is what made the Amish school an easy target. rather, it was the fact that the school was small and secluded. any public school located in an equally rural community would have been just as easy a target. it doesn't matter that the school had/didn't have telephones/alarms/guns, and it certainly doesn't matter that the school was an Amish one.

I read that the teacher in the school sneaked out and called 911 immediately. Which I find interesting..obviously she knew how to do it. Did someone teach her that was something she had to do in case of emergency?

She probably figured that out in college, if she was even Amish herself - that community is a mix of Amish, Brethren, and Mennonite. The man who was the killer himself lived in the community but wasn't any of those.

Thinking Fool,

School shootings aside, do you think that the Amish chicks are hott in those little pilgrim outfits they wear?

As long as Aaron Sorkin is on drugs I will be watching Studio 60

I really like Studio 60. I actually have to pay attention when I watch it!

WiseAzz,

Those Amish outfits aren't quite like the Catholic schoolgirl outfits, huh?

Fool

P.S. - Thank you for the pertinent, timely question.
