Moronic Monday Musings...

The Major League Baseball playoffs have been interesting this year. By “interesting,” I mean I think it’d be more fun to take an incredibly sharp pencil and ram it up my thing than actually watch every game. Even if you hate them, you can’t deny that the playoffs are more fun when the Yankees advance to the ALCS. Stupid Indians!!! (The ones from Cleveland, not the ones who run casinos or own convenience stores. Hmm, do you know anybody whose father is Native American and whose mother is Indian (as in India Indian)? What the hell would you call such a combination?)

Isn’t it incredible that Craig Sager makes God knows how much money interviewing athletes for TNT and TBS? Here’s a guy who looks so weird that you’d call 9-1-1 if you saw him offering your kid a lollipop, yet somehow he’s eked out a great living showing his mug (and hideous outfits) on television. As the I-Man would say, “You couldn’t make this up if you tried!”

Speaking of Imus, all indications are that he’s coming back! WOOHOO! Maybe I’ll hook up my Tivo again if some television station actually picks up his show.

Are the desserts at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe in Dupont any good? The entrees sure leave a lot to be desired (unless you like things that taste like poop; if you do, then Kramerbooks is the place for you!).

Yes, I did hear that Don Imus is being brought back..and when I lived in DC I passed by Kramerbooks a few times but never ventured in.

I'm enjoying the playoffs actually, though I've only seen the games that were on FOX. I'm rooting hard against the Red Sox. They're evil.

The desserts can be excellent or so-so. I've had some that I've loved and some that weren't quite worth what I paid. If I recall correctly, the fruit-based desserts were the best. I think.

I've never eaten an entree at Kramerbooks but I have had dessert. I have to agree with Phil, they are hit or miss. (I had a lovely piece of pie ala mode there though if I remember correctly).

my favorite poops are pretentious.

The desserts are ok at kramer books, the drinks are excellent for getting underage girls drunk so you can take advantage of them.

When I saw the word, baseball in that first sentence, my attention span immediately shrank to GWB's level.

*cough* *choking on pretzel*

Philosofer, you shot me through the heart. The Red Sox are...a lot of things. But "evil" is not one of them! I stood my ground in a Starbucks the other day wearing my sox cap while getting heckled. By the damn barrista. Sox fans have courage.

I had one good entree. It was a pasta. As for desserts, I was really happy with the dysfunctional family.

Harmless... are you kidding me? They're as evil as it gets in sports.

Let's start with the premise that the Yankees are evil. I assume you agree? Now, what makes the Yankees evil? The fact that they spend ridiculous sums of money above and beyond other teams, the fact that they can sign mediocre players to inappropriately large contracts, the fact that they beat up on teams without as much money, the fact that they're more focused on buying talent than player development, the fact that they're constantly in the playoffs as a result of their spending habits, etc.

The Red Sox are guilty of every single one of those same sins. Plus, Red Sox fans are more annoying, and generally less knowledgable about baseball. Most Sox fans have the same smug self-entitlement thing that Yankees fans have, plus this undercurrent of patheticism from the history of losing. It's simultaneously annoying because it's "look at me, I'm the greatest" and "look at me, I've suffered the most".

Plus, the Red Sox are all about the marketing and branding, hiring people to write books about their organization as a way of increasing their publicity, etc. They're first some sort of corporate conglomorate, and second a baseball team. Hell, the whole branding the Yankees the "evil empire" came directly out of Boston's front office/PR machine. Which was absolute crap, and they knew it, since they obviously are guilty of all the same sins. They just fed the public that line of B.S. and started to buy into it themselves.

Plus - and this is a big one - they don't have any of the redeeming history that the Yankees have. Yes, both teams are evil, but the Yankees are less evil because they've got the greatest history. Instead of Babe and Joe D and Gehrig the Red Sox have a history of me-first players (25 guys, 25 taxis), racism, and losing. At least the Yankees have that redeeming history factor to them. (For the record, I'm no Yankees fan. I root for the Twins, and hate the current manifestation of the Yankees (but as a baseball fan I can appreciate their unique contributions to baseball history)).

So, unless you're actually from Boston, you should find a team besides the Red Sox to root for. And if you ARE from Boston, well, sorry, but your hometown 9 are the bad guys.

And they all have syphillis.

Or if you maybe, I don't know, went to school in Red Sox country when they won the World Series and the girls at your school took off their shirts and ran screaming around the Quad when they won? You don't have to be attracted to women or know anything about baseball to understand that the Red Sox equal good fun. I prefer Sox men. By dating Sox men, I can get away with not knowing a damn thing about baseball. I just say, "You know, dear, they aren't going to win." And that's all I have to say in order to participate in the conversation.

Nope. Not a good excuse. If you want crazy fans, go watch soccer.

When my sister (an Orioles fan) married my brother in law (a Yankees fan) they had to go to counseling to work out the associated issues.

I'm not kidding.
